Military dwarves all getting unhappy
is it normal that my military dwarves are all getting mad?
I am training them 2 months at a time, but there has been a lot of bloody fighting recently. Does a lot of training and fighting make them mad and crazy?

Any good suggestions how to deal with that?
I am making some new squads and actually sending angry dwarves away to occupy other settlements...

That's probably why. Just set them to constant training.

Since they are already mad, put them off duty and let them relax before you draft them again.

A fresh group od military squad should do fine with constant 1 year full training only.

Later put them on 3 months training,duty/ 3 off duty

You might have some weak minded dwarfs like peaceful or despises martial art. Double check, but it still doesn't matter cause a dwarf that preffers to be Peace after some while of bloodshed will become cold as stone.

I usually draft dwarfs who don't have big or none families at all into core military.

Their first handful of times seeing combat they will likely get upset. Some will learn to not care and then will stop getting upset or terrified in combat. Some, due to their personality, will always be terrified and get upset by combat.

This gets really bad if you have archers shooting enemies for months on end- A lot of them will usually be very upset. Sometimes if I notice a dwarf is always unhappy in combat over years and years i'll eventually switch them off military- seems like some dwarves just aren't suited for it.

After several years you can usually weed out the bad ones and have a military of very happy killers.

yeah ok must be due to personalities
most of them have been training for quite a while, there's just been a lot of combat lately. I am sending some of the angry ones away to occupy enemy settlements, seems to be a good solution for the moment.

Yeah I made the mistake of recruiting a bunch of women dwarves who gave birth and then carried their babies into battle, the babies didn't like it very much.

Yeah tend to start the military by drafting randos then check up after the first real dust up. You'll see the ones that can't hack it usually go to yellow frownie face, those are now your haulers/threshers/wax workers/potentially catastrophic mining detail dorfs.

Draft replacements and keep rolling till you drum out all the hippies and have an iron core of murderous alcoholics with a thirst for goblinite.

Fun fact: I had an extremely unhappy and weill trained dwarf prone to tantrums, which are dangerous if he started a fistfight somewhere.

I switched him from "no orders" to "off duty" by changing the "always wear unform" in the schedule to "when orders only" (usually Ihave my military always wear their uniform).

This makes them store away their uniform, switch to civilian clothind, tidy up their room and belongings and grab some new clothing to replace worn stuff.

He switched from deep red to 2nd green instantly. I have never seen that before.

interesting, I normally don't make them wear uniform all the time so maybe that wasn't an issue for me.
