Possible to view History of world/fort?

I know the game generates all this lore and history at the start, but is there any way to see any of this stuff mid game? I wanted to read about the history of the world I generated

Not currently except via osmosis (guests and news, carvings, figurines) , you would have to retire to do a deep dive in legends mode, course you could just save beforehand.

I do it sometimes. I save it, then retire, go into legends, read up on whatever I want (there's a huge and full history of pretty much everything, including your fort).

Then I reload the old save.

I've read some people consider that cheating/save scumming since it gives you access to info you otherwise wouldn't have. For instance, I discovered a warecreature this way once.

You can just "save as alternate timeline" and then retire on that save, don't need to actually retire your main timeline. I usually make a save that I use as a legends mode viewer for the world before making the mainline save I play, that way nothing in the fort is recorded yet but the founding.

Just save the game and exit. Then make a new game in the existing world and choose "legends" mode. Done

DFHack will let you view legends now without retiring, but I haven't tried it yet.
