marksman problem

alright, i know this is a common problem but i still don't know how to fix it.

i made a squadron of crossbowman(or crossbowdwarves) and they will not use their bolts. i mean, they won't use bolts at all. if i put them to training, they stand in front of the target and won't shoot, and if i target an enemy they will just bash their head with the crossbow.

now, my hunters use crossbows just fine, so how the hell do i make them pick up ammo's?

Teemo's marksmen video has a bit of bad sound, but it will take care of your ranged worries.

Delete the squad, and remake with a custom marksdwarf uniform assigned at time of squad creation. Uniform switching and the default uniforms are just full of fail currently.

I found that they wouldn't pick up bolts to train as I only had metal.....when I made wood/bone they started training .....I also followed every guide out there first but this was the final hurdle for me

Make sure you have an Ammo Stockpile without bins, they can only pick up bolts from the ground, not from bins.

THANK YOU! After 9 in game years my first marksdwarf finally picked up some bolts and started training... I did as you said: disband the old squad, create a new custom uniform, create a new squad with that uniform assigned :)
