Also, decorate everything before putting it into the rooms. Even if you dont have gems or other better material, even bone decoration will bump the value.
Furniture made from precious metals is the way to go. If you can, encrust with cut gems to bump up the value even further. I usually dedicate one level to being a 'palace' level for the monarch so they have a really large area for their home, and the other bigwigs of society live around it. :)
Royal rooms may only be made "small" if you either a.) make them out of extremely high value (read: rare) materials such as platinum or aluminum or b.) use very high value artifacts (divine or otherwise) in the room. Note that due to minimum furniture requirements (10 stands, 10 chests, 5 cabinets, 1 bed) and the high probability of demands, attempting to make the room interior smaller than 6x5 is a futureproofing problem staring you in the face.
Royal dining rooms/offices/tombs can have 3x3 interiors with all-aluminum/platinum construction, while using gold will require additional value boosters.
my issue is thta the job settings never made only my engraver engrave instead of everyone so I never could let the legendary engraver work there and rooms just got bigger and bigger. otherwise gold silver, electrum statues of proper quality are doing a goodm job too. but on a display you can slap many things increasing value a lot with low space
