Elves tree quota
They requested taht I only cut 25 trees/year. What happens when I disagree? Or when I agree and cut more trees?

I was able to disagree, and kept peace with them by trading and gifting items

Probably war, though I'd not worry to much about that. A bunch of elves with wooden weapons and armour aren't exactly much of a threat against even iron equipped dwarves with crappy skills.

If you say you agree and count out 20 right away for chopping and do no more, each year they usually increase around double the amount they are OK with. Right now I'm in a forest and they are slowly up to OK with 72 a year. At this point I only need it for bins and etc anyway.

i too am in a (temporary) agreement with the elves. the diplomacy always starts out by saying 25 trees but after you agree they give you the actual number of trees you are allowed. they usually increase the cap every year but there has been a few times they caped me low.

YOU CAN CHECK YOUR TREE CAP ANYTIME ON THE MAP SCREENS CIVILIZATION TAB. just click on the elf civilization on your list.

all in all i suggest staying on there good side until they bring you all the exotic pets you want then war train the beasts and wipe out the elves. they made the mistake of selling me a breeding pair of giant grizzly bears, now its just as matter of time.

In areas of high savagery they lower the limit. Also setting enemy difficulty on hard lowers the limit (even though it should be an economy setting). You can change the amount at embark in the custom difficulty options.
