Dwarf Fortress

Is there any reason not to kill elves?
So here comes this caravan with 2 elves and some animals, i want A SINGLE INSTRUMENT from them, and this guy has the audacity to reject my goods because he thinks that i killed someone. My guy, i'm literally sending my entire army ( 2 bois in iron who never seen combat) to kill you and your friend for some exp. And all of that could have been avoided if you didn't consider mussels as something sacred, you little dumb stupid elf.

Nah my volcano has a pipe that runs into my closed room that hosts my trade depot, the bridge goes up and the elves come in and the bridge closes and magma floods the room before being drained off into my forges. Idk why they sent another caravan after #1.
The best part is if they ever attack me for this, this is also how their entire attacking force will die.

It's up to you, really. Elves are weak and ignorant and easy to kill. So some players just raid their caravans when they arrive, and if they send invasion forces as a revenge, usually those troops are ridiculously weak too.

But when you befriend them you can get tons of exotic animals from their traders, which other races (dwarves and humans) don't tend to offer.

You should also engrave the walls with images of elves burning to death under waves because I think at that point if they decide to come in anyway, it's their own fault.

Yet how can i trade with them, when they don't accept the finest bonecrafts and shellcrafts a dwarf(exactly here, in this spot, on this day) can offer?

I tend to trade ammo to them. Masterful iron bolts sell pretty well. Same for golden statues / crafts if I have enough gold on the map.

If you want to lower your fort to trading with elv*s just cut high quality gems and make high value mechanisms, or metal bolts or something like that with high value but no animal parts/wood/bone/cheese. When I was still trading with mine I used selling insane amounts of food to humans/dwarves to buy out all of their gems and resell to elves also.

I wish they arrived with giant tamed animals more often.

After the second time they showed up and refused to trade for one reason or another I decided it was elf meat for supper. Another delicacy to add to my 400,000 in prepared meals

I found a reason, for a few years a random elven hand was stuck just above the fortress, most likely making some dwarves a little bit sad.
