Dwarf Fortress
Shower/bath.
Can I get some explanation on how to make these? I tried following the main tutorial guy on youtube to make a mist generator and all it did was make more water in my base. That I also dont understand how to clean up/if I need to. I know they help with mood buffs. Thanks for the coming help!

sadly you cant clean pile of mud on stone floors. (i know.. -.-)
you can place tables and remove them to clean up the space again.

and for bath/shower/cleaning a normal well is enough.
mists/waterfall is more of a mood improvement, if i understood correctly, i never build such thing (yet).
So.. this comes in several steps.
1. Make a well
2. Make Soap
3. Put a Soap stockpile next to the well.
4. Make a Foot Bath
5. Make a Waterfall

So the Well is easy, but you do need to accomplish the basics of Water Management. Whether you fill the well by Pit/Pond, Water Flow, water pumps.. doesn't matter.

Soap is
1. Make Ash (needs Ashery and Wood Logs)
2. Make Lye (Needs Ash, Empty Bucket)
3. Make Soap (Needs Tallow or Oil, Lye)

Tallow is finicky. It's made automatically in the kitchen, and then it sits in the kitchen stockpile. Since it's right there ready for making a meal it's the first item grabbed to make a meal. So, to make sure you catch the Tallow before it's used in a meal, cancel all meal prep, Slaughter an animal, wait for the Tallow to be automatically made, then in the Labor/Kitchen/Meat and Fish menu find the Tallow and forbid it to be used for cooking. Oil is pressed from Rock Nuts or Olives. You need a jug to put the oil in.

Make a Footbath.

The name is a misnomer, it's called that but it's a channel dug across a major corridor that your dorfs travel. They walk into it, and if it's filled with water they wash blood/vomit/venom and other gooey substances off. They also get a swimming skill raise so it's beneficial.

Make a waterfall.

Have water fall down a 2x2 stairs in a major vertical crossroads of your fortress. As dorfs pass by they get happy thoughts from the waterfall.

If you plan your fortress out and start the water management with the stairs and the waterfall you can then manage the Wells and the Footbaths lower down.

One of the benefits of starting in an aquifer is you kinda get a waterfall for free. In the long run it is FAR easier to start with the waterfall and the footbaths, then do the wells.
A quick way for mud on stone is to cut minecart tracks then just resmooth it.

Don't do that, if for any reason you get high water pressure coming down the stairs, your doctor will get copious opportunities to skill up in bone setting. If you're lucky. If not, get those coffins/engraved slabs ready.

Water can and will sweep your dorfs however many z-levels it can, and the more it does, the greater damage to them. It can also cause cascades of job cancellations.

Instead, make a floor-grate-protected channel next to the stairs in between your controlling floodgate and the stairs themselves. That way water will not flood your stairs (unless you did something horribly right), and your dorfs will still get to enjoy their waterfall along with happiness-inducing mist as they walk by.

Not true. You can place/remove furniture on the mud or carve tracks and resmooth (only on actual stone floors, however).
