Then I decided to put some also way down below in the cavern "outpost". I had to delete those because dwarves would run 25 levels below to grab a mug and then walk back.. :D
It will also make dorfs attempt to keep the linked stockpile full.
Click your tavern stockpile. On the right is a collection of buttons, click the one that says "Set from which workshops and stockpiles..."
In the new window, click the "incoming" button (second one), then click on your general stockpile near the still.
That should do it.
Incidentally, you really want to micro production flow and make separate stockpiles for commonly used things.
Even if you use a single still (do NOT recommend, does not allow keeping stock of all booze but relies on dorf choice RNG as to what drinks will be brewed), at least make separate stockpiles for different dwarven <booze_type> so you won't end up with your single stockpile full of just one drink.
Personally, I've set up my brewing to have one general still (for "brew from fruit" and other plants than the common crops) that outputs exclusively to a separate stockpile, and a single still each (4 total) for each dorf drink. Each of those is linked to its own stockpile, so not only production doesn't get stopped because another drink is in overabundance, I can see at a glance what the stock levels are for each drink.
My tavern likewise has separate stockpiles. It makes things so much easier.
I do the same thing for any material/good that I will handle in large quantities. It helps prevent unexpected production shortages/disruption, helps make it immediately clear what's running out and what production can be safely put on pause to focus on other tasks, and in general gives me a fuzzy feeling of control and micromanagement righteousness. >.>
Definitely recommend. Makes automation of a lot of things so much easier.
