Lye getting put into barrels in a stockpile instead of buckets. Can't make soap. The heck am I doing wrong?

So, I double checked a few different tutorials.
The process for making soap is basically.
Butcher animal > render fat to tallow > make ash > make ash into lye with buckets, barrels, and blocks > bucket of lye + tallow at soap maker will net you some soap.

I've got about 30 extra free buckets.

For some reason the lye is getting put into barrels in a stockpile instead of in the buckets.

1) How do I get the lye out of the barrels and into buckets to make the soap?
2) How do I prevent it from putting it into the stockpile and keep it in the buckets?
3) Why the heck is this happening? LOL

stockpiling can be screwy.

I'd recommend making a stockpile for the lye and buckets specifically, and then setting the number of allowed barrels/bins to 0 in that stockpile.

This should, presumably, move all the lye into buckets.

Trying this now.

Unfortunately, for some reason, the stockpile keeps resetting the barrel limit from 0 to 3 or 6. I tried creating a few new ones, and I think the game just hates me LOL.

Don't use a stockpile for lye. The soap maker will grab lye buckets directly from the workshop.

You don't have to stockpile everything.

Since the stockpiles have it on by default, I'm stuck with like, 3 barrels full of lye =\
Gotta custom turn off lye for every stockpile I have at the moment, but even then the lye seems to disappear bucket wise LOL

Are you sure you have tallow that isn't being marked for cooking? All I had to do was turn off cooking tallow (need to do it for each kind of tallow you have) in the Kitchen tab and soap-making worked.

Yeah, I had it turned off as well :< I'm not sure what's going on.

It's alright though, for some reason they started using the barrels to make the soap instead.... No idea what happened or why or what I did, but it's working now.
