Cant build workshops

Okay this is bugging the hell out of me and I cant seem to find a solution.

for some reason my dwarves have stopped building workshops, they built my initial structures just fine but then for no apparent reason they just stopped and wont build anything else.
I have stopped all current work orders, ive turned off all other jobs Ive set the lot of them to do anything and for some reason they still refuse to build any more workshops.
I have literally run out of drink because they wont build a still and now their mood is crashing but they still wont build.

Help???

Hard to say for sure. Could be a lot of things

The materials for the workshops are forbidden for some reason, and you need to unforbid them.
The materials are behind a bridge, fallen into a river, or somewhere else your dwarfs can't get to
Wild animals keep scaring your dwarfs and they suspend the construction
They are busy with other jobs

Try to cancel the buildings and re-build them. Watch the cancellation logs closely on the left of the screen where all your notifications come up. Sorry you're having troubles, it sucks!

Click on the construction site, is the building suspended for some reason? You can un-suspend it there. Other than that it sounds like they ran out of material, have you tried removing the construction sites and setting then anew with materials you have plenty of?

materials were literally next to the site, site was underground in a safe area of my base no animals and open access to the site from multiple locations.
Update: I saved the game and reloaded and this fixed itself, still no idea what was causing it.
