Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

I'm killing all my dwarfs with minecarts!!!
I'm going crazy trying to figure this one out.
I got a track to bring stuff from the surface all the way down to magma sea (49 to -21). The track is completely sealed except for track start and stop spots, so no shortcuts to other areas of the fortress from there. The minecart is set to be guided (not to kick, not to ride). The entire way is set to restricted traffic area, which I also changed its value to 100. The way to the surface is accessible via other means like stairways. There are no items or other stuff scattered through the tracks that would make the dwarfs go there for hauling.

And even with all of this, minecarts are top 1 killers on my fort by far.
I keep seeing dwarfs with "no job" or "no activity" wandering through the tracks.

I'm assuming this is a bug by the sole fact that guided minecarts should not damage anything on the way. But if someone has any idea of what's going on, I would be delighted to know.
Also, any way to mitigate this? even by raw editing?

Dwarves that are guiding the cart get thirsty and leave to get a drink. If the cart is on a ramp it will build momentum and can impact dwarves.
Sometimes animals and stuff will push minecarts if they have to walk past each other, if theres a ramp right beside them then they gain momentum and can easily murder a dwarf.

I suggest using soft wood minecarts(might help with impact), designating tracks as No Go pathing zones and making sure you have a high traffic stair case close to it as an alternative, and also put track stops with full friction at bottom and tops of ramps to prevent accidental momentum build up(dwarves will still guide carts through these i believe, if not set up extra stops to guide through these)

Yeah, welcome to our life time leasning sessions. Today: FUN with minecarts!

Fast minecarts can be a very effective way to deal with larger invasions. But you need a way to turn them off and protect your haulers and cleaners :D
