Building a defense/traps in my Fortress. Any ideas?
When I first settled into a new fortress, the first thing was to secure basic needs. Now I got enough resources to last for a year. I need to block the main entrance to my Fort and build a trap room in case the goblins/elves launched a D-Day invasion. Any ideas on what type of cheeky traps I should make and get a head start?

My intention is to purposefully build a back room where the place is infested with Doom (Spikes of the floor, a cage trap to take invaders hostage and hold for ransom, a trap floor plunging them toward their death, etc.). I have no idea where I want to start, but I like to treat this game like is a zombie survival game. But put all resource into creating a proper defense than offensive. Maybe I should build a shrine underground, hmm.

Drawbridge are a treat, you can squish people to nothing, catapult them in the air or retract the bridge as they're walking over it to send them plummeting

Long corridor with thin lines full of rock traps, easy to dodge, but if you do, you'll probably fall down to either side, spike traps, magma, water or a very long way down on both sides of each pathway.

You can add random weapon traps everywhere, or just place them between rock traps, so if they dodge a rock, they might get a giant axe blade instead.

Then, at the edge of the corridor create a massive tower you can kick minecarts down from, full of junk and use them as crap shotguns against invaders.

Or just glitch the minecarts without any height instead, and add a bunch of cage traps around a drawbridge that trivializes any challenge in the game, works too.

Honestly, I just build surface forts for my butcher shop and then put one drawbridge main entrance with two side doors. Outside the side doors, I just make walled funnels full of cage traps. I had a massive parley invasion and more than half of them stumbled into the cages. I only had to have my military clean up like half a dozen survivors. The regular invasions have enough wander into the cages that they lose morale and leave.

The only missing piece is the fact that civilian alerts still aren't active in the steam version yet, so I keep having idiot children run outside to play with the goblins and visitors deciding to come visit and leave after the "Siege" flag drops but the map is still full of goblins slowly retreating.

Every fort for me needs a maze that floods with lava and drains away after incinerating raids, bonus it burns up all of their garbage gear besides magma safe stuff worth going to go pick up when it clears out. Easier on a volcano ofc but you can pump up lava to do it too.
