Imagine People permanently going through your room to get to their own 💀

I usually do 3x3 apartment blocks with lots of verticality, boring yet efficient and easy to engrave the value up. My current fort slammed into the caverns faster than I anticipated so I'm building my high-value rooms to sorta "trace" the edge of the caverns, leads to lots of interesting shapes; if you have a cavern or a ravine I recommend trying it.

Gonna do it for every fort I run now. It's so compact yet creates a lot of useful space.

No one besides noble is capable to get their own room, they all sleep right next to the citizen bar

I give every Dorf a 3 x 3 room, which feeds into a 5 tile wide common area. They in turn feed into the main hallways that all lead to the central stairway, which is a 3 x 3, with a waterfall down the middle. To get anywhere to do anything you have to use the stairs. The mist makes all the Dorfs happy.
There is no lack of space underground. I see no reason to cram Dorfs like Kowloon Walled City.

1 big room of 200 beds with no furniture and a 1-wide path running between rows of beds.

there is no joy in socialist dwarfland, only work and sleep.

3x3 rooms, engraved, bed in the middle so the dwarf can appreciate everything handsomely crafted you place around it while they go to sleep.
Having pretty (high value) individual bedroom helps a lot to improve happiness.
Create them around the workshops and Z level up, Z level down, they also like to be near to work.

I like making 2x2's early on just to get bedrooms for everyone, but later on I like to make 2x3 with constructed walls/floors, in which I can get a bed, chest, cabinet, and then 3 more furniture pieces (such as statue, armor stand, weapon rack etc) These take much longer to make, so often I make custom furniture for them and dedicate them to some of the less happy dwarves to help get their mood up.

I personally wouldnt connect rooms like you were doing, I can see it eventually causing clogs at the doors when many dwarves want to move to their rooms.

I prefer 3 wide hallways with 1x4 rooms on either side in segments of 10 each on a side (so 20 total rooms). Very easy to visually see how many I've made and therefore how many I would need.
