I'm going to chime in for UnReal world as well. Combat is brutal and death from wild animal is likely. That is if you don't starve to death first or die from falling through the ice into a lake in winter.
It's as more a survival sim then a pure rogue, so go into it with the expectation of making a log cabin homestead, doing a bit of fishing or trapping. Or maybe play nomadic and follow the reindeer herds.
Also, like dwarf fortress, the devs have been working on it for years and years. I highly recommend it.
(NB nothing to do with the Ultima games).
Roguelike adventure type game with permadeath.
Crazy/Inspired one man developer.
Complex and detailed world.
Extensive procedural generation for almost everything.
Ansi character based graphics.
Long term project.
Currently free.

I didn't play it, but I've heard that it's more of a history simulator than a game. Treat it as a more advanced version of DF Legends mode.
Sorry, remind me how I win at Dwarf Fortress, or what the objective is that I should be working towards? Many players even see it as more a fantasy world simulator and story generator too. URR is a game, just not one that you enjoy, obviously.
Anyway my reply was for the OP and others who may not have come across it before. Many players of DF I am sure would find something interesting in URR. The more who are aware of it, play it, and possibly give feedback/encouragement to the developer, the better.
