Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

Cavern dweller invasions kill your FPS, disable them.
My FPS was at like 15. Thought it was the invading undead. Nope. They eventually left, still horrible fps. Figured it was clothing, made magma dump, manually got rid of every worn piece of clothing. Still nope. Systematically went through everything I could think of to improve FPS. Couldn't figure it out. Figured there was something somewhere in the cavern that was trying to path in since I know pathfinding is the bane of this game. Dug into this one corner of the map that was hidden, and what do you know, 207 reptile men just chilling "invading" (ie standing around there like a lemon not doing anything when they could have swam to where the fisher dwarfs fish in the underground river).

I burned them all with magma. My FPS went from 15 back to 80. Turn your cavern invaders off from the get go. Cool idea, horrible execution.

You can limit the amount before embark. I have it so no more than 50 can invade at a time.

How do you limit it? Can it be done post embark?

No, I won't.

Or make a ton of wealth, summon your 500th forgotten beast and watch the show.

Tough choice.

Lose your fort to thousands of corpses you'll never be able to get rid of lagging the game to ♥♥♥♥.

Or play an even easier, boring game with no invaders from below.

In a way it's kinda like the water issue, it's nice that the game has Z levels, water pressure and you can play with water, incorporate waterfalls as part of your construction, except you really shouldn't do that if you want the game to remain playable, so it doesn't count as actual content.

The cavern dweller are bugges, because they send "invaders" even though their civilization is at "peace". And they never leave and just pile up.

I have now disabled them in the settings, but stille need to kill them all...

You can kinda clean up the corpses with DFHack. Fastdwarf 1 1 and then just mass dump them all into magma.

RimJob fans (like the catgirl bro you quoted) have 0 interest in actually learning or inventing ways to play the game, they just like to come here to complain that Dwarf Fortress it isn't a tedious exercise in hand-holding like the terrible games that they are used to playing. I would ignore/move on rather than reply to that pitiful troll.
Which part of installing an actual third party mod that hacks the game, so you can cheat in an attempt to fix one of the many game's flaws has anything to do with "learning the game"?

You really should think before you type for once.

No offense to the guy who was just trying to be helpful, but this one is just suffering from something.

You don't even go here.

LMAO, you don't need DwarfCheat to dump things in magma, maybe spend less time with anime cat girls and more time thinking critically.

I literally cannot imagine being this mad about how good/creative DF is. Maybe you should stick to the Sims, my friend.

You don't need DFHack to do it, it just does a lot faster with it. Another alternative is to set the caverns on fire.

fps drop isn't caused by pathfinding, that's old misinformation. the fps drop is caused by the number of creatures on the map, because every creature on the map has to cycle through every other creature on the map every tick and poll if they can see each other, even the ones that are dead. this is exponential; pathfinding is linear, according to the new programmer it only accounts for like 5% fps drop.

Dude the whole point of pets and animals using doors as they please and we can't do jack is to save on pathfinding overhead.

Also it turns out there's a new DFHack alpha with autodump, so cleaning up maps is quicker and easier than ever.
[+DG+] Sir_Castic Jan 21, 2023 @ 11:21am
Pets and animals pathing through stupidly locked doors is literally the only case of pathfinding being a serious issue and when it happens it drops immediately to 1fps, it's not the slow creep you have to optimize your fortress against. I know more than you and you are a buffoon. Ook ook, buffoon. Maybe you understand that better.
