Don't use obsidian block for Workshops

I have just set up my magma smelters and forges with obsidian blocks: they are far too black, you lose all visible details on the workshop. Or is that just my monitor settings?

Looking for chromite now, as it's hopefully a little less black and still magma safe.

Yeah, I could use gabbro block, but they look dull on my jet floor.

If you're going to use gabbro, you might as well just use iron bars/blocks.

Found "chromite" and absolutely love that color. Less black and thus more details visible.

try to order some nether cap wood if you dont have it yourself and make blocks from it looks close the same as jet.

I just played an all-obsidian fortress (towers to the sky my friend!) and it did not bother me. All my workshops and all my furniture were obsidian except platinum for nobles. To each his own. I find chalk to be rather nice for workshops.

I like obsidian. Obsidian walls especially look great. They remind me of those special heat-ablation panels that 'they' like to put on space shuttles.
