Artifacts
So I just had a dwarf make the first ever artifact (legendary item?)

It's an asol which is an instrument I guess. I know some artifacts have special features granted to them, but is this also true of instruments?

I'm wondering if it's best to just let it be used as an instrument or maybe display it?

That way you know where it should be and can chain up war dogs or whatever around it or in the passages up to it to help protect it.

It seems you can also get these inside conspiracies to steal them which the usual measures won't protect against, and you need your justice system set up to have any chance of figuring out what happened...... And the justice system is rather janky.

Okay that's what I was thinking too. I know it will attract some smelly creatures to come nab it.

Thanks!

If it's a floor-mountable instrument (some are) then it's going to be a real challenge to steal from your new Tavern & Cabaret.

Yea thats true. Try placing musical instruments (under furniture) to make sure it isn't a furniture type instrument.

Furniture artifacts like floor grates are great since they can just be placed in rooms. I have an artifact bed just sitting in the farmer guild hall. A symbol of fertility I guess, lol

All artifacts are indestructible, which is basically the only "special" property of artifacts (besides being worth a lot more than normal). Well, that, and artifact weapons can be any metal not just weapons-grade such as gold, very good for hammers.

Not necessarily useful for an instrument though.

It's most useful as a display piece, though you could also let it be used as an instrument for bards if you really want. Both run risk of being stolen though.

I'm picturing 2 random tavern go-ers trying to covertly steal a solid gold piano while everyone else watches them in confusion.

That's certainly a symbol lol
A general trick for conspirators is when they come to the fort their skills/history won't align with their profession. You can just sic your army on them on sight to avoid their seditious talk, although that can have other repercussions.

Yea it's just annoying to jump to them and look because the UI doesn't have a spyglass icon in the petitions...... kind of silly.
