That way you know where it should be and can chain up war dogs or whatever around it or in the passages up to it to help protect it.
It seems you can also get these inside conspiracies to steal them which the usual measures won't protect against, and you need your justice system set up to have any chance of figuring out what happened...... And the justice system is rather janky.

Furniture artifacts like floor grates are great since they can just be placed in rooms. I have an artifact bed just sitting in the farmer guild hall. A symbol of fertility I guess, lol
Not necessarily useful for an instrument though.
It's most useful as a display piece, though you could also let it be used as an instrument for bards if you really want. Both run risk of being stolen though.
I'm picturing 2 random tavern go-ers trying to covertly steal a solid gold piano while everyone else watches them in confusion.
