Dwarf Fortress

Dwarf Fortress

What do I do with this dragon deity in cage trap?
Caught a dragon and built him a little tower above my fortress to hang out in. I decided I'd keep him in a cage and try to tame him. I go to assign a dwarf to animal training and notice he's in a temple worshiping the dragon as a deity alongside 70+ other dwarves.

Need some ideas to incorporate this critter into my fortress until it eventually burns it to the ground.

Sounds like a 3 ceeling high Grand temple for your new god.

You could assign him as pet, you could do monster breeding if your lucky enough to find another specim of different sex.

Could create a large cavern area and plate all of it with gold walls, floors, furniture, etc. could even stock pile all of your artifacts in there and train your dragon for war. So when someone inevitably steals an artifact they get insta torched by the angry dragon taking care of its horde.

Bonus points if you act like kobolds and steal everyone's artifacts from their sites and give them to the dragon horde.

Even more bonus points, only have dwarves that worship the dragon.

What kind of temple is it? a nonspecific one?

If it was me I would build him a new temple where he is contained in a big dragon aquarium/terrarium made of glass with trees and dragon statues and etc. in it, and maybe a waterwheel so it looks like he has a hamster wheel to run on.

You could also feed nobles, elfs and imprisoned goblins to it, as a sacrifice.

Wow, some great ideas! Thank you! I'll get started on it's Lair/Temple. Definitely putting all my artifacts down there too.

The temple he was praying at was "Dedicated to Tarem", which is the dragon's name. Early in the fort I built small temples to all the available deities so I think he was being worshipped before he showed up on the map.

You're going to want to keep that in a super secure isolated area. I think it takes 1000 years(???) for a dragon to age-up to adult, and unless you try and tame it from a young age over 1000 years it'll never fully get tame and will always at times rarely freak out. Keep in mind dragon fire is way hotter than magma/etc, and WILL MELT magma-safe materials. You'll want a legendary animal trainer, and then you can keep an already-adult "semi-tame" about 95% of the time.

This definitely calls for a grand temple mega project. Magma waterfalls etc. Something spdctacular.
been trying too get a few cave dragons myself but no luck :c

Instead of training the dragon, you create a penned area plated in gold that is surrounded by fortifications, have a retracting drawbridge both 1 and 2 z levels above him so you can pit sacrifices onto the first bridge, retract it and let them fall onto the 2nd, close the first and retract the 2nd to finalize sacrifice entry without letting the dragon escape.

Finally, designate a temple encircling the dragon just out of dragon breath range, designate that temple to the dragon.

I think I read that things built of ash blocks will resist dragonfire. Check wiki if you need dragon-safe materials.
