keep all your goods deep in your fort behind dwarves that are able to kill Kea's. How I build my fort entrances are that anything bad from the surface needs to path through all of the barracks to enter the main section of my fort, and that's where my military trains, so it keeps them out.

ye.. force them into a 1 z high tunnel and put cage traps there... or consider archer towers

Right now they are passing through the middle of a large barracks to get into muh fort.

Ok, I need to learn how to do archer towers.

How to build the tower is clear, including fortifications.
How do you station archers to actively guard?
Does that involve using the schedule + the green arrow tool to designate a location?

ah, so they are not triggering the military dwarves on their way by? I guess you need to do some manual targeting through the military menu.

I use dogs in a pen blocking my entrance. Kea don't like being bitten by dogs so...

Weapon traps with iron tier weapons (mostly scraps from siege invaders) have been working a treat at my main entrance. Helps save the trouble of reloading cage traps and dealing with the scrap birds. Plus it just feels great to see them launched backwards in a bloody pulp. :urist:

15 Z levels of lava on the surface should do it.

yeha except they even steal stepladders.

Don't put your storage outside. Regular kea are scared by anything and even a dwarf child can murder them. So pop a dog on a chain at your entrance and they wo'nt get in.

But really, having your storage inside the fort will be safe, since you always have people inside to scare them or fight therm.

Stepladders are dangerous. Dwarves take them even when they are in use.

do you even understand, somehwere in the World is a Kea nest full of treasures. Artifacts even, maybe.

Just lost 3 artifacts and a platinum ring to keas.... Forgot them inside the trading outpost. But its fun right?... Put a grizzly bear on a chain there now and I hope they come back and try to steal more

I'm considering taming giant birds to have an air force to defend against air attack. Won't stop a roc, but I'm harassed by agitated birds of all size (savage biome).
However, I don't think any flying bird can be trained for war, so I don't know if they'd fight back good enough.

Still, thinking large pasture where they live, with a retractable bridge for roof. When something big happen/siege I lock the bridge, otherwise it's opened. But I wonder if they'll just fly away or not.

Funilly enough, I captured a sea serpent (one of the biggets creature of DF), so I already kinda have a navy. It's sitting in an aquarium in the tavern right now, but I have a place to release it (release the kraken !).
