So how do I go about making a waterfall machine?
apparently falling water cures depression and I'd like my dwarven morons to not be depressed, and last time I tried to build one of these I had a lot of fun but it didn't work and the base flooded

Drainage game.

Something something pump stack, or just drain it off the edge of the map by smoothing a rock square and putting a fortification (since you can't remove the edge of map rocks)

This has been talked about quite a bit the past few days.

This video gives you step by step instructions. I suggest building the first one in a building on the surface to avoid giving everyone a bath instead of a shower if you place something incorrectly.

You DO NOT NEED and DO NOT WANT a non-stop supply of water. Use pit/pond to put the water in. It doesn't take particularly long if you don't have a long list of pending labor.
