Fire is bad. :)
You can't defeat it in terms of FPS hits. It's simulated and that simulation, just like a heck of a lot of others that are not as apparent, is pretty intense. Every square on fire, checking every bordering tile, checking combustion/melting points, spreading, checking every bordering tile, checking combustion/melting points, spreading..
It's a logarithmic expansion... Well, it's intense, that's for sure. :)
Get your beast downed, get things stable, and if you've still got rampaging fires you can try to "Retire for now" and then restart and Reclaim the fortress. You may want to make a manual save before that, just in case. A few days will have passed when you reclaim the fort and, one hopes, your fort may still be there unharmed... :)
I will give that a try, thank you!
Thank you! I went and made another fort, I will attempt to go back and mess with that one later today. The 1 fps it was at was quite abysmal. I need to find a better way at dealing with demons for sure. I have never used the "Retire for now" so it'll be good to see what happens!
