For the armor - it seems to work for me to just use the standard "metal" and "archer" uniforms without changing anything.
Are they wearing armoured high boots instead of regular shoes?
Yes! I was smithing the armor types as the steel rolled in, and they did pick it up as it got finished and they seemed to do it rather fast.
For the humans in the squads, I didn't bother to make armor for them, but I noticed that when it got available because I reopened to the surface and it was littered with human sixed armor from various dead people, they went out and helped themselves to some of the armos lying around.
It's very easy to create and delete squads in this interface, so I also just delete the squad if I want them to have some spare time or to avoud conflicts with solders that are hunters, woodcutters, miners - these conflicts maybe are WORSE than before.
It's also possible that the no bolts for marksdwarves thing is because some of them are hunters or woodcutters?
I'll try the default metal armour.
I tend to make my marksdwarves hunters at the same time, since they should be using the same equipment. That worked for my previous fort. Right now, i don't seem to have any wild animals to hunt for over a year.
Should i match axe dwarves as woodcutters, and marksdwarfs as hunters to avoid conflict?
