How to equip other tools?
How do I make my dwarf equip a steel tool versus the copper one he is using?

Maybe add him to a military squad so that he grabs a different weapon. Then forbid all picks besides the steel ones. Then unassign from military so he grabs pick back up for job.

To be clear, I have not tested this, just throwing an idea out there.

May not work if he is attached to that tool.

Just a side note. Mining is not affected by the tool's metal, unlike Minecraft.
It's affecting it's stats only when the dwarf fights with it.

EDIT : Now you could as well go int dorf's info sheet, click on "items" click on it's tool on that list, and forbid that tool. He will drop it and go pick an other when needed.
If you do so, make sure you smelt the unwanted metals ones or you all forbid lesser metals tools.

I'll try this if there's no other method, thanks

Yeah sadly I found that out after I purchased a steel pick thinking it'd be better for mining. Now I just want him to equip it because it looks cool and I already paid for it lol

Just so you know, the same is true for anvils. Save your money/points and stick to the iron.
