Dwarf Fortress

No Cave Moss or Floor Fungus?
I cracked open the first cavern layer, and was anticipating my floor being in covered in cave grasses. Unfortunately this is not the case, and has not been the case for about one in-game month. Does anyone have any advice about this? I cannot conceive of why this would happen.

Moss and fungus only spawns on soil layers like sand, or dirt.
Secondly you have to have opened the cavern to let the spores fly in to your fortress freely.

create mud with water if you want the fungus on stone.

Also note that some caverns are "dry" - they will still have creatures and farmable mud on the floor, but if the cavern itself has no floor fungus or underground plants, then it also won't provide spores to grow those in your fortress. In a default world-gen, you will have three cavern layers though, so if one layer is dry, the others might not be. A dry cavern will also only have bloodthorn for underground "trees" (and those will only be in the third cavern layer, since they don't normally grow in caverns 1 & 2).
