The dwarf refuses to wear high boots

One of the military dwarves is not wearing iron high boots. In the uniform settings I chose specific boots but he doesn't wear them. I tried to disband and form a squad but it did not help. Could it be because he wears greaves?

I think the shoes are your problem, as they can't wear shoes and boots at the same time and aren't smart enough to take them off with "over clothing" enabled. If you choose "replace clothing" he should ditch them for boots.

as i recall, there is an issue they wont take off their shoes when armor is worn 'over' clothing. You can try exact match + uniform replaces clothing, assign boots 1 time, no socks, that should fix it

I was able to put high boots on with a set of greaves, but I had to manually hit "New footwear" in the equipment window found in the military tab bottom right. Pick "specific shoes" option. Kinda janky, but works.
