If yes then try putting cabinets and chests in the room.
I always make 2x2 rooms with a cabinet bed and chest, later in the game when I have the manpower I smooth all the walls in the bedrooms too.
This makes my dwarves very happy
Dormitories need multiple beds, a door and also to be assigned as a dormitory
Build yourself a 9x5 room, put five beds along each long wall, and a cabinet or chest next to the bed away from the wall (the exact position doesn't matter, it's just to add value to the room), make sure there's a door, smooth the floors down, and then flag the room as a dormitory which will allow dwarves who need to take a nap a place to go before you've managed to build a few hundred tiny efficiency apartments.
I actually dont use doors, but I do assign each room a separate bedroom zone.
