2. Make sure you have empty barrels (made of wood in a Carpenter's workshop) or pots (made of stone in a Craftdwarf's workshop)
3. Grow or gather fermentable plants or fruit
4. Place an order at the Still to "Brew drink from plant" or "Brew drink from fruit"
If you set one of your dwarves as a "manager" in the Nobles menu, you can set a work order to maintain a stock of drinks, so you don't have to keep placing orders by hand.
for example. grain for beer, berries for wine?
Yes, but any kind of drink will keep them from dying of thirst, which seems to be the OP's problem. And there are a bunch of different kinds of wine, depending on the fruit/plant used.
its not advised long term
there is alot of booze in this game and dorfs make booze out of almost everything,
for quick start you can gather fruits and plants from outside but every process will need an empty barrel. so make sure you got some empty barrels about (100) an gather fruit.
So I tried it and it really works :)
Thanks again for the help ;)
