Intelligent undead are thinking, sapient beings. They attack things based on their loyalties just like other people. They come with procedurally generated names such as "Putrid One", "Risen Slayer", or, as in your case, "Faded Zombie". This just tells you which specific type of intelligent undead they are.
The reason they are not hostile to you is because they are probably just visitors. A forgotten beast attacked and they were like "Woah that's not good" and fought back. Due to being immortal they are probably very skilled, which is probably why they beat the beast.
Also quick correction about regular zombies: They are hostile to everything that is not undead. They will ignore enemy undead (for example, if a necromancer's horde attacked you while the faded zombie goblins were kicking around, the regular zombies would ignore them unless they attack first).
