Report a translation problem
The problem must be that one if the things he needs for the artefact is on the map but out of his reach.
While it was a different thing that bugged out, that Dorf was still standing there and likely melancholic due to having passed the point where his possession needed an item you didn't have in order to craft the Artifact.
It's possible he was naturally predisposed to that and it kicked off in the middle of crafting, too. But, they do sometimes go catatonic for awhile once they've passed the point and can't craft that item. He'll eventually go mad/etc. Check the Workstation menu and if he's no longer asking for items, he's a goner.. If he is, you're lucky and should rush to provide what's needed before he goes nuts. :)
