What is the deal with elves being such hypocrites?
I haven't been able to sell anything to any elven traders yet. I've made sure that nothing is made out of wood. Yet they get angry at me for something wood related.
Still they ONLY offer you stuff made out of wood.

Then, if you try selling them animals, they get offended.
Yet, there they are with their caravan full on caged animals ready to be sold.

They're fully consistent: they don't deal in items derived from killing a tree or animal. Elves sell items made of "grown" wood, which is different from chopped-a-tree-down wood. If you buy their "grown" logs, you can make grown wood items and sell them back with no problems (you can't currently produce your own grown logs, though). They will buy live animals, but not the products of killing one.

They'll happily buy anything made of stone or metal, or gems.

I think "grown wood" is different than the wood we use. I think of it - and I could be wrong, but this is how I think of it - as like, sentient trees that are freely offering a portion of their wood to the elves for crafting.

The animals, similar thing. Presumably the elves have a connection with animals that make it possible for them to domesticate without having to resort to the aggressive methods of other races. Or maybe they really art just hypocrites, who knows?

"Becuse there wood items are grown" which is them planting a seed and ask it to be grown to that item. But like the wiki puts it smelly, the stuck-up, arrogant tree-fondling hippies tries to enforce there concept of protecting nature so if you dont do it like them they will start a war.

Grown wood is most likely pruning really big branches instead of cutting the whole thing down

A good idea is not to use bins or barrels in a stockpile you pull from for trading, if you are being visited by elf traders. I cheese prepared meals for trading, and if elves are trading I leave barrels at 0 for that stockpile. Prepared meals can't contain elf angering materials and are ludicrously valuable with a legendary cook due to having multiple ingredients (the cheese part, especially if valuable cheese is an ingredient in the meal)

in stockpiles there is a little leaf symbol when setting up, if you activate it it will make sure it will only accept stuff that the elves want, when it comes to bin its fine to haul them to the trade depo aslong you dont trade the entire bin, if you select items from the bin they are fine with it

Hmm, I don't understand then that what is going on here. I don't have any wood items (I might have bins, but I click each item separately to leave the bins out of the deal). I tested this only with monsters and animals in iron cages but then they started going like "oh no how can you do that to a simple creature?" or something like that.

It's getting so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrating.

Neat, I never noticed the leaf button, that is pretty helpful thanks. I dislike picking through a long list in the trade screen though so I still wouldn't use bins and barrels.

EDIT: Decorations count in regards to the elves, so if you have an item with wood decoration (I read on B12 that bones are now considered bad by elves now too but I haven't had elf caravans to test it with) the elves will still be angry. Things like imported crafts can have decorations that make them angry even if the core of the item is made of metal.

Yeah, I noticed it but did never think of using it for this issue. Will have to try it. :)

if anything is decorated with bone/leather and so on, they will hate and that doesnt help they will also hate you if you kill to many trees, there is no way to win agenst them

Yeah, the bone decoration came to my mind too. I've also chopped a lot of trees so it might be it. Each time the caravan makes threats but they never will come for me. I might have to go and try to wipe them out so I can get rid of their caravans completely. :)

So.. This only works if the stockpile in question is the closest one to the trading depo. And even still it's a pain in the ass.

You can only sort your goods by distance or value and I'm not eenn sure if it actually shows you the distance.

I love the game but I seriously haven't played a game in a long time that desperately needs pure UI tweaks and improvements this much to get better.

Even with this issue the simplest way would be to allow us to sort by individual stockpiles instead of distance..

When they sell you a grown chair, it's not a chair made of grown wood. They literally grew that chair. Now sit your ass down on it lol

Elves are sort of druids. They ask the tree to grow wood, then the tree do that and drop it for them to use. As such it's "grown" like you grow plants. The tree doesn't die and they are OK with that.

The no "animal" related thing is new. Before they didn't care about animals that much. I think it's a bit too much, but that's my opinion.

BTW, Elves are cannibals if you wonder where they get their meat :)

I do that too, I put a seed in the ground and say: "grow tree" the tree grows and gives me his wood.
