If you havent messed with the standing orders if you have a tannery it should auto tan any skin to leather for you aslong you have milk of lime that is, othervise skin is also consider refuse
It can be useful to have a refuse stockpile dedicated to raw skins, and nothing else, or it can get clogged by bones and skulls and other crap quite fast. Or you build your butcher shop outside, then you can just keep the skins in the workshop without rotting.
Was there something planned for it, but was scrapped? or is there something currently in the works?
On a similar note, what can i do with teeth?
Probably just because they're obsessive about realism with this game's design. It could have a future use, though, such as the making of glues or pastes. Not saying it will, just that it's plausible.
Teeth, I believe, can be used to craft crowns...?
The game models multiple tissues and organ systems for its combat/damage systems. When you butcher a corpse, you get back every one of those tissues and organs. Most are either edible or can be used for crafting, but some, like cartilage and nervous system, are useless.
Large teeth (from sufficiently large animals) can be used for crafting, but small teeth are just garbage.
