Dwarf Fortress

All my animal parts are rotting in the butcher.
Everything except for the actual meat stays in my butcher workshop and will not be taken to the refuse pile, despite me having specifically marked bones and all other animal parts other than meat for the stockpile. What's up?

Make sure refuse hauling is not globally disallowed. If the Butcher is outside they will ignore refuse created there by default.

how far away is the refuse pile? and what happens if you create a closer stockpile with custom settings disallowing everything execpt for corpses and refuse that has everything allowed?

I put the refuse stockpile right next to the butcher because I know that distance has an impact on how fast dwarves will bring stuff to it. They're still not putting anything in it.

I had this problem for like five years lol. I took to always putting butcher shops behind walls to at least contain the miasma.

I made it work just last week in the Steam release. I created a stockpile only for meat as close as possible to the butcher shop. And now the dwarves haul the meat to there instead of letting it rot as they usually do with me.

Oh, mine is outside right now because one guide I viewed said butchers were "kinda smelly" and should be separated from the general living quarters. So that's probably the issue.

Ooh, I'm gonna do this.

Yep, it was a standing order to not haul outside refuse that did it. Thanks for the help.
