Domesticated animal problem..

Just recently started playing DF.
Maybe someone can help me understand what I'm doing wrong.

I'm butchering extra animals for hide and food, but the Tanner doesn't accept the skins.
Do animals need to be around some age for a skin to be usable?

Have already tried evrything with stockpiles. Fresh skins to rotten skins stockpile. Linked to Tanner workshops. Still shows "Need unrotten tannable body part"

Do I kill them too soon? They need to age?

Try deleting all skin stockpiles. Dump and reclaim hides in bins.

There are no requirements for the skins. If it's a raw hide, it can be tanned.

Make sure your workshop have the job activated.
Hides can also rot, if it takes too much time between the butchering process and the tanning process they might've rotted, in which case they're just considered trash.

Mhmm. This is why I build my Butcher & Tanner adjacent, the latter job should be immediate after processing.
