wheelbarrows why no use?
Why are furnace operators not using the wheelbarrow from the stone stockpile and instead are limbing for 5mins carrying the boulder by hand? its stupid please fix.

Did you set max wheelbaarrows in the stockpile menu?

Wheelbarrows are only used for stockpiles. Best thing to do is to put the relevant stockpile near the furnaces.

haulers use em to the stockpile im pissy about furnace guys not using em out of the stockpile the stone didnt get any lighter while sitting there >.<

From what I can tell they'll use wheelbarrows to bring stone to a stone stockpile set up to allow the usage of wheelbarrows, but they always hand carry things from the stockpile to the furnace/workshop. Wheelbarrows only get used to move things to or between stockpiles, never to the actual workshop.

The bigger gripe I have is dwarves only taking from the nearest stockpile if you set the workshop to only take from that stockpile. Otherwise they seem to like trekking ten miles to get a rock in the cavern 70 z-levels down rather than just grab the rocks sitting right near the workstation.

It's... just a matter of game-logic, so not quite so stupid. IF wheelbarrows could be assigned to applicable Workshops, that'd be nice, but it would only matter for one wheelbarrow, since only one Dorf can do a job at one Workshop.

There's some "gaminess" there, too - You need to put the stuff close to where the Dorfs are using it. Otherwise... you get long haul times. That's the "game" of that mechanic.

You could put a small stockpile next to the workshop with an assigned wheelbarrow, then set that stockpile to 'pull' from the main.

Yup, that'd work nicely!

(I do that for coal and food/drink materials, though I should be doing that for some others, too.)

"just affects one dorf" thats the whole game.... everything in it is "affects only one dorf" :D
and it just does not make any sense if you think bout it,
the wheelbarrow is RIGHT THERE and the dorf gonna be "yeah not gonna use that it belongs to stockpile"
its stupid.
would it take bit of code to make it work properly so the dorf takes the wheelbarrow hauls the stuff and brings the wheelbarrow back empty? probably but its how it SHOULD work.

It's gamified.

And, it makes logical sense - That one wheelbarrow, any one of a group even, can't be tasked for "everything"... it'd have to be checked for "everything." And, what's worse? A dorf lugging up a stone from level -130 to level +5 while some craftsdorf hogs the wheelbarrow making stone toys? In that case, the stockpile should be... closer to the workshop where the stones are used. Wheelbarrows are intended for long-distance hauling, where their speed is much more valuable.

might expect bit too much but this is DF.... what would expect to see is haul dorf walks to stockpile sees wheelbarrow missing scoots over to workshop stabs the smith takes the wheel barrow and continues happily to haul away.

I just have one big huge crafting stockpile and about 40 wheelbarrows. All the workshops are buried inside the stockpile so any one items is never more than 20 blocks away for the workshops.
