Why you just dont play with werewolf nation? Its a big luck to have three alive werewolves that didnt kill each other

Retire is the "pause" option. It allows you to come back to the fort as it was. Abandon does that, abandons the fort, which allows you to go and reclaim it with a new embark, if you choose.

I'd say stick with the fort, play it out to its end.

giving up a fort can have consequences later on.
retire I believe time still goes on even when your playing another fort :/
they can end up visiting you, and infecting your new fort.

abandon to ruin, the dwarfs should move out. to who knows where to :/
could be you go bk to your fort only for it to start all over again...

at least if you play out the fort, you will know what happens to them XD
possible you might even have some fun along the way :D

If you don't understand why you'd want to pause a fort when running a fort prevents you from doing anything else in that world, I'm not sure what to tell you. Most people at least want to check legends sometimes.

well that depends on you.

either way there will be consequences.

retire. could mean all those ppl in the fort, get infected over time. or the population could drive out those who are infected.
you will have no control over what happens while it is retired. but you will be able to go bk to it, or trade with them, so if you have trained animals, or goods you might want in your next fort. you will be able to embark with those things if you retire.

abandon to ruin, is just that, you kick everyone out of the fort, and it is abandoned.
it can be reclaimed later.... but again, time might move on, and things may move in :/

personally I tend to retire forts.
that way if I had a cotton industry I can embark with cotton cloth or thread
I also like it when my trained dwarfs, my master dwarfs the ones I've spent sooooo long working on... decide to move into my new fort :D

so for fresh start with my new dwarf and using those old resources i should choice abandon fort ? got it

That way you can check out Legends or move on to another fort for a while. My first fort was overtaken by aggro wildlife, and I'd like to go back and see if it's salvageable, but my world is very young and immigrants are few and far between. If I pass a decade or two before returning, there may be more dwarves to immigrate.

Adventure Mode is my favorite reason to retire. When that's back in, if (say) a thief steals your masterwork pigtail sock, you could retire the fort, create a hero, have that hero retrieve the sock, and then go back to building the fort with a hero in your army.
