Pig Tail slurry?

Can I make pig tail slurry for sheets? I have planty of pigtail plants and a mill, but no slurry is beeing made.

I think it's specific plants.
But at the very least, you can try just mass gathering surface plants and hope one of them is the slurry plant.

yes, pig tail is really good plant, on of the important thing for you dwarfes at the start, brew alch, processing thread for cloth and slurry for press paper, at this point - good clothing and library give a lot of good thoughts to your population, and doesn't have any difficulty to make it

but why don't they do it?

Check the millstone/quern and see if there's any linked stockpiles as that makes a workshop look for all items from that stockpile- if that's the case then unlink it; afterwards check if there's available plants. Check the job cancelled announcement to see if you can spot the reason why the task is being cancelled.
