But yeah, it means that you can't just channel into a magma sea or volcano like before. But that's really no big problem because you can easily come up with a design which seperates your magma workshops hermetically from the magma source.
Although... giving that a second thought.... it's probably possible that some magma creatures just spawn inside your sealed off lava, isn't it? What a bummer lol.
You can work around this by channeling with magma safe pumps and a floodgate blocking a cistern
Tap into the magma after you have the water ready to flood the same channel as the magma. Tap into the magma from a diagnal. When it's filled the channel that your workshops are going to be over open the floodgate and you'll block off the flow with obsidian. That will keep out the !!!FUN!!!.
Use an adequate miner, turn off all his labor except operate lever and mine. Drop a dummy lever behind a door that is locked from the rest of the fort. Put it next to the floodgate lever. Pause as soon as the dwarf moves away from the magma and turn off mining turn on lever. Set the dummy lever to repeat highest priority and run a few frames with . to make sure it's working, then unpause and the dwarf will hover at the dummy lever while the magma flows. If you see a crab or imp you can switch the lever jobs and block the flow, mitigate the beast, clear the obsidian and do it again.
