Dwarf Fortress

Why is no one using my dining room...
I have a big dining hall with 10 tables and chairs, yet can only assign one noble/administrator to it. The rest of the nobles/administrators have "no dining hall" assigned. Do I have to break up the dining hall into 10 separate zones and assign each to an administrator? I want to keep em happy.

thank you!!

When you assign someone to a room, it becomes their property. You need to unassign everyone to let other dwarves use it.

If a noble has a dining room as a requirement, I’m pretty sure they want their own personal dining room.

If you don't assign anyone to a dining hall, it will be available to your entire fortress. Nobles that demand a dining room require their own personal dining room that must be assigned only to that noble.

Yeah they all want their own seperate one. You could do several zones in a single room, that could work, but might be less valuable than building them their own dining rooms due to size. Large rooms already start off being pretty valuable, so you need less expensive stuff to prop up the value until they're happy with it.

Im still new so not sure if this is the best way to do it but i ended up just giving each their own dining room. Basically just each noble have their own apartment with their own bedroom, study and dining.

In my current game, Dwarfs are using my dining hall all the time, but in other games, Dwarfs would only go in their occasionally and usually eat alone. I don't know why it is different this time. Either way, it is worth it to build a communal dining hall, because even in the fort where they didn't seem to be using it all that much, I noticed that Dwarf's often had memories of using it, so they were going in there when they needed to.

I think it's got to be something about distance or ease of access to the dining hall + food/drink because my dwarves have refused to use dining halls not specifically assigned to any one dwarf if it isn't more convenient than the tavern for them to reach.

The way I did it, I dug a huge hall filled with Tables and chairs but I marked each pair of tables and chairs as a individual dining hall zone. This seemed to work. You dont need a separate room with doors for each table.
