Worn cloth stockpile
I need your professional help.

How to create a stockpile for worn clothes?

I have a human colony in the neighborhood that pays very well for my dwarves' old masterwork clothes. (I don't even want to know what they do with it.)

Unfortunately I can't find the right setting for used clothes and my haulers sort everything into the new clothes store. Sorting that out in the trading post is a Sysiphusian task. It would be best to sell complete bins to them.

I don't want to throw it away, there are sometimes 10,000 coins in a year.

Does anyone know how I can separate the new and worn clothes?

dont think you can without a refuse pile.
on the note of what they do with the clothing tho humans are very resourceful, merchant based culture so likely cleaning and turning old clothes into rags, decor etc and turning the less desirable clothing into clothing for sub races (probably elves)

You can't, we used a DfHack script to do that in classic DF.

The easiest way I've figured out is to stack a garbage dump on top of a refuse stockpile with all refuse except the clothing mats turned off. You'll have to manually dump them still. I set up bins in the stockpile but the dwarves didn't use them. I'll have to try a single square stockpile next. That might work, but I forgot about it and they all rotted away before I checked again, which works too. I'd rather not atomsmash them, my clothier is Legendary.

Thanks for the quick responses. I remember the DfHack script in classic DF - long time ago ...

@Xcorps: Interesting approach. If that works, I'll give it a try as well. Please keep me informed once you have successfully tested it.

Right now, I find this pretty annoying... I ramped up my Clothing production and now every darn Dorf thinks they're at a Paris fashion show.

Socks... everywhere.

Forget Megabeasts. A Sockomancer would destroy my fortress in moments.

I'm only running 20 dwarves right but worn out clothing disappears fast enough if you use a refuse stockpile. I read putting it in a room with vermin like a hatchery will make it decay even fast but I am able to pretty much ignore clothing. I think I made two passes through the item list. Leather hoods, cloaks, tunics, shoes and trousers keep the clutter down to a manageable level but it's still not cleanowned scattered.

Sockomancer...my new dream class.

But if things are lying around so wildly, then you don't have enough storage space or you don't have enough haulers.

I have 20 haulers in my 100 person dwarven fortress who do nothing others carrying things around. Nothing is left lying around and all floors are completly cleaned. What does it look like when the beautiful engravings are dirty. That's too much for even the toughest dwarf.

I've got just under 220 Dorfs, storage everywhere, but no filter to isolate "worn" clothing and the like :/ ("Unusable" is it.), and "should" have enough haulers hauling... I'm still recovering from "Everyone loves Recreation/Fulfillment more than their job" issues, though.

There's just no way to automate gathering it. It's all claimed and forbidden, since it's owned by other Dorfs.

A "Ragger" that would take old cloth and turn it into bits for paper-making and bandages... would be nice.

I don't want things to disappear. This is pure gold or steel. I'm just looking for a way to not have to activate each part in the trading post individually. With 20 bins with 100 items in them, you will get confused. And one wrong click and you start it again.

A "ragger" or the possibility of making other things out of it (e.g. bandages) would really be a good solution. Good idea.

Tested and it works!

I have set up 3 stockpiles - 1 linked to my leatherworker accepting only goods from this shop, 1 linked to my clothier accepting only goods from them and 1 not linked and accepting items from all sources.

Finally my haulers are sorting everything so that I have the worn items in separate bins and can sell these complete bins.

@polle: Thanks for business.

Just asking, are you guys using quantum stockpiles? Seems like whenever i assign clothiers to QSPs without any bins, they just pick them up and bring them to the "Old Clothing Stockpile" near the trade depot. Do you know how to fix it? Thank you kindly

Is there a clothing stockpile under the QSP? It needs to have all body/leagwear etc and ther respective material/quality settings enabled.
