Birch Chair - Needs a Throne Room???
Edit: Guys I appreciate the comments on the manager but I know how to set that up xD
I literally cant put down the chair lol

So I started a more proper colony, wanting to see it through to the end after finally getting my head around the game a lil

Now I employed a manager and wanted to make his office.

Made a chair and a table so he has it nice and cozy and... it needs a throne room. Huh?

I so far made all furniture and doors of birch, I am in the literal first months, summer to be specific. What happened here?

This mean, either:
1 - You don't have any uninstalled chair/throne available anywhere in your fort;
2 - There is no path available between the point you are trying to install the chair/throne and any uninstalled chair/throne available anywhere in your fort.

As you said you are sure to have a birch chair available, check for #2.
Done that, both chairs I made are available for anyone to take inside of the carpenters workshop. Haulers have previously already taken items from it and hauled them to a stockpile so anyone building anything should be able to take it as well.

Items do not show up for job use/installation as being Inventoried Items until they are put in a Storage Zone.

Make a storage zone for Furniture, being sure to include Stone Thrones and Wooden Chairs.

(Throne/chair are the same thing. All Dorfs are their own Kings, so they call their beloved stone chairs... thrones, I guess.)

designate an office zone with the chair inside. Then click the zone and assign the manager to it.

I thought the tutorial covered this? Maybe check the ? button top right

Okay. You have a room which has walls, at least 1 door, 1 chair 1 table in it? Then it should work designate it as an office. Maybe you are trying to overlap zones, or messed with the "multi"vs"paint" thingie?

Whatever you made was not a chair, or if you made a wooden chair, it is not done yet and so can't be placed. A "throne" is just the name of a dwarfy chair. A manager only needs a chair and a table to be designated as his office, as per the tutorial.

Nope.

Here is what I did: I had set my carpenter to make a door, chair and table all out of Birch wood.

Then I dug out a 2x4 area for the office (dont ask, I just do sizes my own way while figuring out the game) and placed the door and the table.
Then I tried to place the chair and it said: "Needs throne"

Then I thought "maybe I gotta zone it first" and did that.
Tried placing it again, same result.

Thrones and chairs are the same thing (done out of different mats). The game is inconsistent as whether they refer to one or another.

To have the manager working:

Click "n', then assign someone to the manager position.

Place a chair/throne (birch is fine as any mat goes), an optional table (so they can eat there if they so choose), then go "z", select "office" (first icon on right column), select the square with the chair (or the two squares for the chair--table combo), click accept.

The new office area should remain selected. Click on the dwarf icon near the top-right of that panel and select your manager to assign it to them.

No room needs to be encircled by walls.

Offices don't need tables, though they are cool to have there anyways.

Zone overlapping is also not (at least usually) a problem when setting up noble requirements.

The problems with overlapping arise, mostly, with the value of the objects being split between the concurring zones, with you only being able to click/select the upmost one and, of course, with only one dwarf being able to use the one chair at the same time.

Try and build the chair right besides that workshop. If you are able to do that, the problem is certainly pathing to wherever else you are trying to build it. If you still can't, than you don't have a chair.

As I am looking at the carpentry workshop I have as follows:

1. Bed
2. Bed
3. Door.
4. Chair
5. Door
6. Bed
7. Door
8. Chair

I have now queued up another one on top of the two present in the workshops inventory.

I have also tried your suggestion: Same result

The workshop is accessible by both workers and haulers. I have seen how they carry stuff out.

The problem is not they being able to carry the stuff out of the workshop, but being able to reach the place where you want to install it. Are you able to build a chair right beside the workshop?

Ah sorry I missunderstood that then. But they are able to reach it, it is very open and... literally on the oposite side of the hallway lol

But as for your question: No, it still says "needs throne"
chronosphaenon Dec 22, 2022 @ 10:36am
Then I'm out of ideas. Because with the scenario you are describing you should be able to build that d*mn chair.
