Archer Squad Not Training
Title. My melee dwarves use their barracks and training rooms no problem. They go right in when I tell them to. My archer squad, on the other hand, is not doing squat. I made a very nice archery practice room for them, it's built properly, etc. They won't use it. They've never used it. Not one bolt / arrowed fired. But, if I put a regular training area there, they use it but for melee. I don't need more melee, I need archers. Anyone know the deal? Google hasn't been very helpful.

I just let my archer squads be hunters when they're not training but I'm sure there's some proper way to train them.

Known bugs. Some solutions, use the default "Archer" armor set. Do they have quivers (with bolts inside) equipped? If not, disband and reform the unit. Maybe even redo their barracks zone. Keep doing that until it works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

"Only one soldier can use an archery target at a time. This means that if you have multiple targets next to each other, you must designate a training grounds for each of them or only one will be used at a time."

I wonder if that's it (almost positive it's not). Does this mean I need to make one barracks line to target for each dwarf and set them individually? That's what it sounds like to me.

Ok that was NOT the solution. Yeah, tried everything Wiki has to offer. I'll try what Lux said.

Are you making an archery range or barracks?

Sorry, who is Lux and what did they say was the solution?

Archery Range. Barracks mechanic works fine for my melee. Archers training is the issue. They only train melee even when in the archery range. Geared, have archer uniform, bolts, etc. They have everything they need. They simply refuse to train archery.

Unfortunately it looks like there are no solutions. Lot of people having same issues.

The word is they do train, but they take their sweet time before starting to fire at the ranges.

Mine are training, i set the schedule to Ready and modified it to allow training at certain times. I have 5 training ranges, each 1x7 long, 1 target each. Each training range is assigned to the same squad. Bolts are in storage and its working. maybe its a scheduling or uniform issue?

Make sure you have rooms that have enough length to them. In the beginning I made the mistake of creating an archery range that was to small. Now I created one where the range has ten unobstructed spaces towards the targets.

All of my archers are using it without a problem now.

Mine train fine. Sorry it's not working for you.

This is no longer true in the Steam version. Here's a vid where you can seeing it all working properly, even when multiple targets are in the same Archery Training area:

Note: This should help you create viable training areas from start to finish.

Make sure you don't have Hunters, Miners, or Woodcutters assigned to your Military Squads - The Uniform mechanics often get them confused as those roles/jobs have a sort of "uniform" requirement too. (Crossbow, Pick, Axe)

ok so my archers can train sometimes, I never saw them training archery but I noticed that they have "novice archery" now so it must mean they are training, The problem to me is that my archery squad has 6 people and only 2 equip ammo, not only that but only one equips the leather armor, I already set the equip settings to "equip/always" but it doesn't matter. I think I'm going to just give up on archery for now or something.
