Pretty pointless to send out 7. They'll die. Most civilizations are about 50-10,000 people. So. But, yknow whatever.
You don't actually get to interact or see anything. They leave, they do it, they return, they submit a report. You read it. They bring back the loot.
Crossbows are good but hard to set up. But one squad is good to have. Because some things cannot be approached by melee close enough to get hit.
I want to see them kill things
You can see stuff at your fort but not on the world.
Unfortunately if you tried to witness a fight of 100 dwarves vs 7000 goblins and beak dogs your computer would commit sudoku on the spot
What about migrating to a different tile to build a 2nd fort though? Or just to explore some other area; is that not an option?
You can set up other civs as a result of a raid, but you don't interact with them they're autonomous.
You will never visually see another area but your embark site
In the classic version, it works by retiring the fort, then starting adventure mod, then retiring your adventurers in your fort.
Some unexpected things can happen though.
