Dwarf Fortress

Civillians hauling away armor from armor stands in barracks
I might have a bug here :D
When there is an "off-duty" month for my soldiers in their schedule, they put down their armor on armor stands, in barracks - that`s perfectly fine!
However, soon civillians haul their armor away to the general armor stockpile, rather than leaving it on armor stands.
And, to make things worse, soldiers react to that with taking armor from general armor stockpile back to the barracks!
It creates constant dull jobs of hauling things from A to B, and B to A, until the "off-duty" month passes and dwarves put on their uniforms.
Can you help please?

Not sure but maybe similar to clothes.

Set your general pile to only take from your armor making workshops...of course that might be problematic when harvesting goblinite or buying junk, can't think of an easy way to do it that's for sure.
That's a known bug, and AFAIK there is no true fix.
You might find a workaround, but that's it.

Military is heavily bugged and broken right now.
Even more so than in Classic, if I'm not mistaken.

This game is a constant cycle of having things work for a while, which is amazing, and then having to deal with 14 things breaking all at once, which is about as enjoyable as a botched circumcision.
I'm afraid that's a feature, lol.
Weaponracks don't work, armorstands will be picked clean.
You can put the metal armor and weapon stockpile in your barracks or you can press "edit" in the shedule's tabs and choose "equip/allways" left on the right hand menu.
If they don't equip everything after choosing the "equip/allways" option, you need to reset the armor.

None of my Armor Stands have Armor in them and none of my Weapon Racks contain weapons... likely for the same reason. Thanks - I thought I was doing something wrong. :)

Though...

I do have a stockpile in the barracks for ammo, which may be contributing to the problem. But, will Markdswarves take ammo from an Archery Range stockpile?

I haven't checked Noble's rooms to see if they are putting items in the Weapon Racks/Armor stockpile. I guess it's just a general bug that makes them show up as being available for hauling jobs? There's no storage-filter tag showing armor/weapon racks as exclusive for armor/weapons?

There are definitely some issues, sometimes just finicky troubleshooting, sometimes truly buggy stuffs, with the Military atm.

Backpack food bug, boots/weapon uniform conflicts, and combat vs training ammo choices are probably pretty high on the list after Markdswarf-charging after firing a shot and not choosing, instead, to reload...
Thanks guys - I`m afraid that "armor - always on" will be a thing now for these poor fellows :(
^^ honestly the best option imo, ensures that they're always equiped and ready to fight too.
So far I had no problems with marksmen taking up bolts from both stockpiles in and out the barracks or from the workshops where they were made. However, many people report this problem.
Weaponracks need fixing, they don't work but dwarfs run upto them to "try".
Backpacks I try to avoid, but alas I forgot to exclude them in "prepare carefully" again.
The longboots issue can be helped by resetting the armor while using equip/allways in the schedule edit.
Hunters do keep firing if their target is slow or stumbling around vomiting. I only use crossbows since those are also a mace for when melee has triggered.

Lol. My first thought on this was "Wow! You actually got your dwarves to wear armor in the first place?"

Dozens of pieces of metal armor sitting around gathering dust, uniforms assigned, and my military still runs around in their skivvies like a bunch of berserker idiots. All I can seem to get them to claim are weapons and shields for some reason.

If I ever get them to suit up, I'll come back and sound off on suggestions for what they do if they ever take their kit off.

Make sure your uniform is set up to your liking and including removing choice from them, make it so your uniform replaces clothes and always to wear and put there schedule to anything but off duty and voila they should be grabbing armor when they can, and you can press the update equipment to see who has what equiped correctly

Going to the Squad and into their Equip menu and pressing the Update Uniform whatsits button will fore them to "re-check" to see if they can find pieces of their Uniform to wear.

They do that, anyway, but may take awhile between searches of available inventory. So, if you're cranking out stuff and it wasn't there when the uniform was first assigned, force them to do another search by clicking that Update button.

(And, yes, it should have been called something else, because it's contextual in its reference and the panel doesn't tell you exactly what that context is...)
