Dog pus, dog pus everywhere ..

At the start of my fort I had a dog that seems to have started off with an infection, this dog dropped a puddle of it somewhere and other animals walked through said puddle.
Said other animals got some dog pus on their feet and it never comes off again.
It is also spreading like grey goo and nobody really seems keen on cleaning it up.
Not sure how to deal with this ? Also dog pus should just go away at some point ? (but it doesn't)
Or animals need to clean their feet somehow ? (they don't, well other than cats)

You could pasture them in a corridor with a water tile or just kill injured dogs next time

I keep starting off with an injured dog somehow.
But pasturing them off doesn't solve the problem, it just hides it somewhere.

Dwarfs can/will clean the floor, but it sounds like it's getting tracked faster than it is cleaned.
