Writing materials/stocking in library problem !!
I dont know how to get Dwarves to move writing materials into the library chests. How do i do this?

big library, bookshelves, tables, chairs, chests.. many scrolls and quires in stockpile area's bins.. but they wont bring them into the library chests..

only thing i can think of is they are far too busy doing other jobs..
any advice?

On the library zone's info screen, does it show the library as wanting writing materials?

Are people using the library itself, storing books there, hanging out there, etc?

The tasks list give you an idea of which jobs are outstanding. If you've not got enough haulers, you'll see a bunch of 'store item in stockpile' task outstanding. If not, then it's probably not people being too busy elsewhere

Yes they hang out there, but no writing or scribing yet, cause no writing material in the chests.
I dont see any outstanding tasks in the task list, only what the dwarves are currently doing.

no one know this problem?

You need scholars and writer. Scholar debate and eventually get a book to write, the writer will write it. They don't write 24/7 new books, it's a rather long process.
They can copy book you find/buy though. It's an automatic process, and it's best if the writers are not too busy with important tasks.

i have 3 scholars, and a scribe.. the problem is no1 will haul the writing material from storage into the library chests

Forbid them from where they're currently being stored and see if that prompts a work detail, maybe?

I cant even find it in the stockpile lists.. Under 'stocks' scrolls and quires are considered tools.. but the closest thing i can find is sheets.. which is wrong.. and i cant find tools in the list anywhere.
But the Dwarvess should still move the items to the location its needed, they did it for the hospital.

Tools as "tool". Like "door". It doesn't appear as a category (in this case) IIRC.

Try linking the stockpile to feed something in that room, perhaps? A small stockpile? I don't know if you can feed a chest/bookshelves from a stockiple zone.

You cannot feed chests, and i've seen other posts, and people on reddit say to not do that. (make a stockpile in the room.)
Besides i couldnt find the category for scrolls and quires anyways.

I just cant tell if Im wasting time with a bug or if I just need to wait for them to want to write and maybe 'then' they'll grab the needed materials.

If they take a job that requires materials, meaning you have those materials somewhere, then they'll go run and get them, yes. (Or should.)

It's not broken, as others have plenty of success with it AFAIK. It's likely that your Dorfs are all busy doing other things than hauling jobs. You might be able to temporarily assign a bunch of otherwise useless dorfs to Hauling work to see if that helps.

Not broken, it works for me. I don't do anything besides having the dorfworking at the library, the chest and the quires.

I guess its just a low low low priority cause no-one is writing or scribing..
i went with early short history, and havent had any visiting scholars ..
