Can't brew fruit stored in bags stored in a barrel

I could use some help with this one:

So, I embarked with some various above ground fruit, strawberries and such. I cannot brew these, in spite of having tons of empty barrels. They show up in the kitchen menu as available for cooking/brewing, but at the still, the work order to brew drinks is red with the mention that it has no item to brew.

Here is what I already tried:
- making a stockpile that accepts the fruit but disallows barrels, so that maybe the dwarves take the fruit out of the barrel it's in. They don't do that.
- have the whole barrel dumped, but they also don't do that.
- dump just the bags. Doesn't work.
- dump the whole thing. Doesn't happen either.

I have dwarves who could do the work as well, my brewer is out of a job.

Argh, I was unaware I could go deeper. Yes, that worked. wow.

Regardless of this workaround, this should probably be fixed.

Barrels/bins have always interfered with workshops and other things. It will probably take a while to fix.

Better not use them for any crafting ingredients or equipment.
