Difference between taverns and dinning halls?
Is there a difference between the two? I can't seem to find how to set a place as a tavern and have travelers come by.

Yep, a dining hall is just a place to eat but your dwarves will do a lot more in a tavern. They'll perform for each other, socialise, drink a bunch.

When you make a meeting hall zone, you can assign a location to it - the icon is a plus on something. Then you create a new tavern. It should be open to the public by default

Taverns are places that attract guests, and will have creatures come and perform. To make one, first designate a Zone as a meeting area or DInning hall, the click on the little Plus banner on the zone info page. That lets you add/create a complex location like a Temple, Tavern, Hospital, Guildhall, or Library.

If you have a tavern do you need a dinning hall?

From what ive seen dining halls seem to be for individuals just like with offices. Not sure if inn/tavern also does food but it definitely doesn't count as a dining area. Im hoping that i can just designate a 1x1 zone in peoples bedrooms with a table to be the dining area ...

You can turn dining areas into taverns. In the beginning you might want to have a dining room with multiple tables and seats just to get your Dwarfs started, later you can experiment with individual dining rooms, taverns, and bigger dining rooms if need be.

Note that zones can overlap (e.g. bedroom and dining room), but that overlapping zones diminish the value of a room. So if the room needs to be of a certain value (rooms for a mayor, for example) then overlapping might be a bad idea.

No, they'll all use a communal dining hall and get a good thought from doing so. In fact, they miss out on that thought if they only eat in a meeting-hall-zones tavern, so I include a zoned dining hall in my taverns to keep the dwarves happy

Thanks for this information!

But one thing I do not understand.
In Taverns you can put chests, that will be filled with mugs. But it looks like that this is not happening with dining rooms. My Nobles complain about not having a mug to drink from.

I sometimes put a 1x1 stockpile with no bins just for a single goblet/mug in my prison cells, I'm sure that would work for your stinky nobles too.
Chest for mugs in taverns for tavernkeeper usage only. Build a 1x1 stockpile for goblets in all dinning areas, set them to take from main finished goods stockpile if you have one.

Are dwarves too stupid to take the cups out of bins?

AND too stupid to take crossbow bolts out of bins?

WHY DO BINS EXIST???

Bins are used to store stacks of items on a single tile.
A bin can only be used by one dwarf at a time. Perhaps you are seeing this. Otherwise, not sure what the deal is.

They totaly can take cups from bins. But only if this bin in a dinning hall. And I never had a problems with bolts. Maybe they dont have quivers?

It seems to be a problem mostly related to archery training. Once I had a stockpile actually IN my archery range full of non-binned bolts, people started using the targets.
