That being said, the metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of truckload of lizardmens sneaking absolutely everywhere, climbing absolutely every climbable surface and able to maul any forgotten beast foolish enough to dare put a foot into the first layer maybe are for something. I perfectly understand why nothing dare go into this forsaken pit that is the first cavern.
If they can't reach you they usually stick around till either something else kills em or they die of starvation.
I've seen several and several Let's Plays/Streams of players finding them. So, "it's just you" unless the very latest patch did something, there.
Do you see a lot of blood all over the place? Ash and bones? Webs? If so, you may wish to start building walls and backing out as fast as you can...
I got it resolved by reinstalling, something broke causing only passive creatures to spawn no matter how many times I recreated a map or placed a new fort.
