Dwarf Fortress - living world with history, Z levels, tons of game mechanics, 27 bucks for full game
both are hard or easy as you set them
maybe you should try the game then
its funny how RW fanbois are mad because DF :)
Be warned, though, the current version is a little buggy and crash prone (as of now). Should be fixed with a few patches.
you could wait for a while. or you could play the free version (0.47.05)
hope your passion makes you happy..
Play rimworld if you're after combats and gun fights
Play DF if you're after emergent storytelling, multiple story building, vast unpredictable world and a toolbox where you can build anything you can imagine and where most things are simulated to a weirdly deep level.
While RW was based on DF, they're not different versions of the same game they're basically different subgenres entirely and they're doing entirely different stuff and gameplay so they're for different people.
This is the best answer for the question
theres no point in trying to butt your head against a wall trying to learn the "game of everything", which people tend to give a little too much credit for because of misunderstandings and raving reviews about the depth of the dwarf fortress. its better to go with something a bit more intuitive and moreover, understand that dwarf fortress and rimworld aren't really comparable beyond very basic observations. if you want just the briefest exposition of what i mean, dwarf fortress is more macromanagement and rimworld is more micromanagement. the two play very differently and offer very different player experiences in this regard.
