Drawf getting more upset
So I'm not sure what the cause is as I cant see where it says why theyre mad. they have a couple unmet prayer needs but I cant work out how to let them pray

Have a temple, and give him some downtime. The temple doesn't need anything specific, but an altar and decorations help.

how do I make a temple?

You need to make a temple thats either dedicated to their god, or is just a general temple. Then you need to let them have some off time, otherwise theyll never get the time to visit said temple.

You gotta build some temples with an alter (and a chest with some musical instruments though its not EXACTLY essential, but it certainly helps). Once you got the room smoothed out and furnished with an alter and a chest or two, just place a meeting area over it and then set it to a temple of the desired god.

Do general temples need alters/chests?
i have a general temple, and all it has is thrones and statues in it, and people seem to use it.

After you assign a meeting room, you can specialize it into a Tavern, Medical, Temple and so on. And when you put it as a Temple, you either dedicate it to a General worship or to a specific god.

Click on your temple-zone, and then on the magnifying glass in the window. This shows you the details of the place, what it lacks and what it has, and it's worth / status.

When you set up the meeting room, you get a window in top left. It has a banner with yellow plus on it. Click it. Just overall fiddle around with the tabs and menus. There's a lot of stuff in there.
With enough stability, luck, or even micromanagement, even particularly miserable dwarfs, such as those that have unmeetable needs, can be kept relatively "sane" simply due to high exposure to positive stimuli. It takes a lot of positive stimuli to keep such dwarfs "in the black", as it were, so expect any gains to be hard fought over long periods of time. Moreover, expect to have to waste time once a year to wrestle with long-term unmet needs.

The good news is that most dwarfs in a stable fortress don't require much effort to keep them happy. It's just there's always that one Urist McZealous who needs to pray to every god imaginable or Urist McLonelypants who needs friends and family, but starts with neither and can't form social bonds. Those are the ones that you'll pull your hair out trying to pamper, especially if they have valuable skills.
